Darnal Award for Social Justice (DASJ) is a biennial international prize inspired by the short but brilliant life of the social justice leader Suvash Darnal. The Darnal Award is awarded to organisations and movements, or individuals under the age of 40, who lead efforts to eliminate caste-based discrimination and indignities. Darnal Award offers a cash prize of NPR 500,000. It is awarded every two years on June 8, which marks Suvash Darnal’s birthday. This prize has been awarded since 2015 by the Sarita Pariyar Trust Fund established by Darnal’s life-partner Sarita Pariyar. The Trust Fund collaborates with various entities to organize the awards ceremony and other public discourse programs.
